Endings and beginnings...

I am tired. There...I said it out loud although, let's be honest, I haven't been that shy about it! It is the end of the quarter/semester at school and I have yet to figure out how to impress upon my students that they shouldn't wait until the last day to begin to work...sooo frustrating. I feel like every year I need to re-learn this lesson because I think that this years 8th graders will be different and then am frustrated in January when they're not. Lessons learned!

This week I will begin my online class, "The Walk." I am excited and nervous...I have never done anything like this before and, in many ways, am putting more on my plate, and yet, am hoping that it will provide some clarity. The first area I am giving myself permission is to wait...wait until Friday when I have more time. Wait to begin until I can actually focus. This is new for me...waiting...

Gratefulness...Today I am grateful for those around me...the otters in my raft (for my blog on Otters...go here) surrounding me...I am grateful for the strength and protection that they provide. It is (almost) half-way through the year and it has been some rough ones...we otter stick together. Our raft floats near the shore, we are bound together, and we are hoping to weather this storm...

Sometimes looking for the good reminds us how we really are surrounded...we're otters...we stick together. Let's float!

  1. Eighth grade must be a tough year for teachers. Kids are starting to be very independent (and mouthy) in many ways, but they seem lost and disorganized most of the time...and tired! I have three kids of my own - all finally past that age. Two oldest are finally showing signs of maturity.

Thank you for all that you do for the youth in your community as a teacher.
