A is for Authentic

What does it mean to be authentic? According to Webster's Dictionary, Authentic means a) worthy of acceptance or belief b) not false or imitation, c) true to one's own personality, spirit, or character. Being authentic means that you are true to your word, that your word means something...being authentic means you are accessible, open, and true.

In order to be the kind of people many would like to be, we must be authentic, the real deal...What does that mean for our daily life? It means that we must be open, we must be ready to hear others and, more importantly, to listen. We must put aside the stories that we tell ourselves, the talking in our own heads, and be receptive.

"Live authentically. Why would you continue to compromise something that's beautiful to create something that is fake."

~Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free.

  1. Shannon, great post! I am always advising my coaching clients that they should produce videos that are in keeping with their authenticity - I wonder if they sometimes think, "What's that?" Now I have your perfect definition and description to point them to.

  2. I really like the idea behind this post. Being Authentic is something I really care about. I think its something we should all strive to be. Nice take on the letter "a." :)

  3. It's funny b/c I have a post scheduled for later in the month that touches on the same topic. When someone isn't being their true self, I call it "false advertising". How can you know if you actually like someone if they're putting on a front?

Great way to start off the challenge!

  5. And you're off! Watch out Z, here comes Shannon. Love your thoughts on authenticity, especially these lines, "It means that we must be open, we must be ready to hear others and, more importantly, to listen. We must put aside the stories that we tell ourselves, the talking in our own heads, and be receptive." Perfect! Thanks!
